Time is a thief!
I feel like this saying is so overused these days, but it is so so true.
I can vaguely remember growing up rolling my eyes every time I heard "older" people talking about how fast time flies by. I just thought they were being dramatic. When I was pregnant with my first son I'm pretty sure the most common thing people told me was, "Enjoy every second. It goes by so fast." Again, I shrugged it off.
Then this magical thing happened...my son was born. One second I was bringing home a tiny baby from the hospital terrified about all the things to come, and the next second he's a not so tiny young man who thinks he has the whole world figured out at 11 and I'm still terrified about all the things to come.
I'm convinced that time speeds up 10x when you become a parent and no one can tell me different. This fact alone is the reason I take pictures and videos of every little thing my kids do.
Oh, you're running across the yard? *record
You're curled up on the couch with your favorite blanket? *snap
You're showing me some crazy new dance moves? *record
You got dressed in something other than athletic clothes? *snap *snap *snap
Let them be little
Kids are curious creatures. They want to see everything, touch everything, know how everything works, and move constantly. So let them.
There's this whole idea that when you have pictures taken everyone needs to stand together, look directly at the camera, and say "CHEESE!" Yes, those pictures are beautiful and you will treasure them for years to come, but what if I told you there was a way to get more natural pictures that really showed off your kiddos' personalities and the love shared between your family.
Listen Mama, I know you have very few pictures of the whole family. I know that it has probably been forever (maybe even never) since you had family pictures taken. I want to give you pictures that you will hang on your walls and smile at every day even long after those sweet babes have grown up. Getting those pictures does not need to be a stressful and miserable experience!
My goal is that when you and your family meet with me I am able to capture your family exactly as they are in a way that tells your family's story. I absolutely want your kids to run around and have the time of their life. To be honest, I will probably encourage it and possibly run around with them.
Just let go!
When you book your next family photoshoot whether it's with me or another photographer, remember to let go of any unrealistic expectations you have for your session. Let go of the idea that everyone needs to be perfectly posed. Let go of the idea that your kids need to be perfect well behaved angels. Just. Let. Go.
If you do this I promise everyone will have so much fun and you will absolutely love the result.
